Umar Mir is 15 years old. He lives in Pattan district of Jammu & Kashmir. Umar studies in class 10 and is an extremely active child. His father, Assadullah Mir is a farmer and gets work seasonally. He is the only earning member of the family as Umar’s mother, Haleema, is a housewife and he has 5 siblings.
Their financial condition is too poor to afford the cost of his surgery therefore the family is looking forward for support under the Umeed –Dhadkan initiative.
Umar’s parents became aware of his heart problem when he was 10 years old as his heartbeat was not normal. His parents approached several doctors who recommended a corrective surgery.
In August 2017, when Umar went to G B Pant hospital in Srinagar for treatment, the doctor informed his family that a free health camp was being organized at the hospital.
Doctors from Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Delhi were attending the health camp and evaluating the patients. Post evaluation the children diagnosed with Congenigtal Heart Defect would be treated in DELHI-NCR free of cost. Umar came for the health camp and was recommended for a surgery. On 11th December 20, 20172017, Umar along with his father came to Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram and consulted Dr. Vijay Aggarwal, Pediatric Cardiologist and CTVS surgeon.
