Finding out about the problem/symptoms
Rahul was leading a healthy life until the age of 8 when he complained of chest pain while playing. His parents dint pay attention at that time, since they thought it was a regular pain which will subside with time. His health became a matter of concern for his family when he stopped walking at the age of 17. Rahul was unable to get up from his bed, he had turned blue and was extremely pale and weak. With the help of Rahul’s school teachers and civil doctors his mother took him for a health camp in Surat ,Gujarat. A 2D Echocardiography test was done at the health camp and Rahul was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect.
On further medical examination, the doctor advised Rahul for a surgery. However due to lack of funds there was nothing much his mother could do. Mangli visited several health camps to seek support from Hospitals and NGOs who would extend support for Rahul’s treatment.
Through the Maharashtra Chief Ministers Relief Fund ASHA program the family approached Fortis Hospital Mulund. Rahul’s case was referred to Fortis Foundation who decided to support Rahul’s surgery and gave him a new lease of hope.
Rahul was evaluated by Dr. Vijay Agarwal, Chief Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon at Fortis Mulund. He was diagnosed with MVR Repair , SOS replacement. He had a successful surgery on 13th February 2017.
Rahul says ` I never thought I will be able to walk again, but now I can run and play my favorite sport –cricket. I want to bat like Sachin Tendulkar’.
