She lives with her parents in Suraj Vihar, Haryana. Preeti’s father, Praveen is a daily wage labourer and her mother is a housewife. Praveen earns approximately 8000 rupees per month and is the sole earner of the family. He supports 4 dependents including his elderly father.
Preeti was born with a cleft lip deformity in a Government hospital in Haryana. At birth the doctor advised her parents that she requires a surgery to repair her lips. Preeti regularly had problems while drinking milk. The milk would leak out from her nose and it was very difficult for her to consume it. This made her irritable and she would cry often. This also created problems with her growth as she couldn’t gain weight. Her parents were extremely worried and took her to nearby health camps where they were told Preeti required surgery. However, they were unable to arrange the finances required and were constantly looking for philanthropic support.
Preeti’s Uncle, Praveer is a Graduation student and lives with the family. He researched about support for cleft surgeries and found out that Fortis Foundation supports cleft treatment for underprivileged children free of cost. The family came to Fortis memorial Research Institute (FMRI) and post evaluation were advised to undergo a Cleft lip surgery.
In February 2018, Preeti’s Cleft Lip surgery was successfully completed at Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram.
Fortis Foundation and Mission Smile supported her surgery.
The surgery was led by Dr Gagan Sabharwal (Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon) and Dr. Rashmi Taneja along with their team, Dr.H.H. Das (Anesthetist) and Dr. Yashika (Coordinator).
