The Nanhi Chhaan Foundation (‘Nanhi’ is how little girls are endearingly referred to and ‘Chhaan’ is shade/protection) is a not-for-profit organization set up in 2008 with the objective of addressing three important issues on the social agenda of the country namely, the adverse gender ratio (and women’s empowerment), preservation of trees (and environment protection) and lack of Inter Faith harmony (promote secularism). In line with Nanhi Chhaan’s objectives of raising awareness around issues of gender particularly the girl child, this last year saw the launch of several important initiatives such as the health and sanitation project which involves delivering 250+ toilets in villages in Dist. Amritsar and Dist. Solan, H.P, English language scholarship programme partnering with the U.S Embassy, Sapling plantation drives and the 2nd edition of the National school Essay Contest amongst many others.
The Nanhi Chhaan mandate encourages partnerships across the globe, that bring together stakeholders who commit to increasing our global tree cover as well as advancing girls and women’s rights. The Nanhi Chhaan Foundation takes the marriage of these two ideas, replete in all faiths, and gives you the platform to do something, no matter how small or large, symbolic or not, to contribute and create change.
