Kapil Sehrawat is the son of Ashok Kumar from Jhajjar, Haryana. He was born in a government hospital at Haryana. Kapil often complained of chest pain and had cold and cough throughout the year. When he was three months old, he went through a detailed heart evaluation and was diagnosed with a hole in the heart. Kapil was sent for further evaluation to a higher center by the doctor. In 2012 Kapil visited a local hospital in Haryana for a detailed medical evaluation but couldn’t be treated as the family did not have enough money to pay for his treatment.
Later that year, a NGO conducted a health camp for children suffering from Congenital Heart Defect. Kapil’s parents took him to the camp and registered him for the treatment. The doctors informed the family about Fortis Foundation supporting the treatment for such children, after which the family visited Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI) where he was evaluated in detail and then advised for a surgical closure of Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).
Kapil’s father Ashok works as a driver and has to take care of 6 dependents including his 87 year old mother who is bed ridden. This puts the family in a situation where they can’t bear the cost of surgery with the limited income.
Kapil was successfully treated on 18th January 2017 with support from Fortis Foundation and Being Human Foundation. Kapil can now pursue his dream of becoming an army officer.
