Hamari Beti was launched to take care of the academic expense of underprivileged girls. The programme aims at empowering these girls by providing them the means to lead a life of dignity without any discrimination. The programme was launched at Hiranandani Fortis Hospital in August 2010. Under this programme, the facility takes care of the academic expense of eight underprivileged girls from Gyan Vikas School in Koperkhairne, Vashi.
The girls were selected by the Fortis Facility Director and representatives from the school. While some of the girls are orphans, the parents of others are either working as domestic helps or auto-rickshaw drivers, living in the lesser known slums of Koperkhairne, Vashi. The facility sponsors their annual school fees, textbooks, uniforms, shoes, etc. Regular visits to the school are carried out by a team from the Facility Director''s office to check on the academic progress of the girls.
During the last interaction session, a team from the facility took them on a visit to the Kotak Mahindra Bank. The Bank Manager volunteered to explain different banking operations including opening of an account, cash deposit, withdrawals, issuance of cheque book and how to draw a cheque. The ATM operations, CCTV placement and maintenance of security at the bank were also demonstrated to them. The bank later gifted piggybanks and chocolates to these girls.
