In a horrific acid attack which dates back to January 31, 2011; 23 year old Amanpreet Kaur of Bathinda, Punjab suffered severe burn injuries on her face when two men wearing monkey caps threw acid on her. This incident occurred while she was returning home from the beauty parlour where she worked. Police investigations revealed that one of the accused was Amanpreet's brother-in-law (her sister's husband). The woman had allegedly rejected her brother-in-law's advances and snubbed him when he tried to harass her. Angry at being insulted, her brother-in-law took revenge by throwing acid on her. Life has been agonizing for her since she has already undergone 13 surgeries and her family has utilized all its savings and sold off whatever property they owned to pay for her treatment. Under its commitment to support female acid attack victims belonging to economically weaker section, Fortis Foundation is bearing the entire expenses of her treatment (medical, surgical and psychological). Amanpreet is currently being treated at Fortis Hospital Mohali.
