Our Journey So Far

Fortis Mohali observes World Breastfeeding Week

To join hands on our initiatives of changing the Mother & Child Health situation in India, Fortis Hospital in Mohali conducted a rural outreach camp during the world breastfeeding month for expecting, lactating mothers and Anganwadi workers at Kajheri village in Mohali on 12th August. Dr Swapna Mishra, a prominent consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology department of the facility, volunteered her time and delivered an awareness talk on importance of breastfeeding for the health of an infant. The multiple benefits of breastfeeding were explained to the women - how it protects an infant from diarrhoea (a major reason for infant mortality in rural India), ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections and the many long term benefits like reduced risk of asthma, allergies and some childhood cancers. The need for exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infants life was also stressed upon.
